Local Musicians Record First CDs

The collaboration of talented musicians and music lovers helped two Lopez musicians complete their first CDs in 2007. After winning a local competition sponsored by Lopez Artists Advance, blues guitarist and vocalist Jean-Jacques Tetu recorded “The Lopez Sessions” and Tibetan singer Karsangjamtso “Karjam” Saeji recorded “Pilgrimage.” Both CDs were produced by veteran guitarist Ralf Illenberger, who is also featured on the albums. Executive producers of the CDs were Steve and Michele Heller. Lenedra Carroll, an accomplished musician and producer, mentored both musicians, helping them to set up websites, and distribute and market their music. Carroll founded Lopez Artists Advance in 2007 to create opportunities and career development for Lopez artists of all genres and ages.

Karjam’s “Pilgrimage” won Best Asian Album and his song “Danlih” captured the first runner up for Best Asian Song in the 2009 Just Plain Folks music awards, the largest independent music awards in the world. Karjam’s album features traditional Tibetan songs and original compositons. In addition to Karjam’s bouzouki and voice, musical tracks on “Pilgrimige” were provided by Illenberger and drummer Jaime Cordova.
